: Gardasil

We are going to start having Gardasil available, since this is a 3 shot vaccine
do we bill the insurance in full when the patient gets the 1st shot, and bill the 2nd and 3rd shot with not charge to insurance company to let them know the patient received all 3 shots?

Thanks

Hi Susan,

You will bill for each injection at the time of service even though it's a series of 3. You cannot bill all 3 injections at the time of the first injection, and if you put no charge for the 2nd and 3rd injections you will probably have a problem getting your claim through electronically.

I have a pediatric group that does these occasionally, we've had to call the carrier, some won't take them all on separate lines. Some carriers want each date of service separately since it's done in a series of 3 shots but not on same day. UHC wants it all on one with DOS being the first injection. So best to call and see what the carriers want.
