: secondary claim submission for non-medicare claims
: rkillian June 20, 2008, 11:09:51 PM
Do you know of any HIPAA standards that require vendors to bill secondary claims electronically instead of having facility providers submit them via paper?  I have found lots of references to Medicare requiring electronic bills for secondary's and commercial carriers stating they can accept secondary claims, but nothing that requires vendors to provide this with the software.

Thanks!

Hi,
I'm not sure I understand the question.  I know that some carriers, including Medicare are requiring 2ndaries to be billed electronically.  My electronic software vendor set up my software so I was capable of doing this.

I am not aware of any HIPAA requirement that states that the vendor has to have those capabilities but if my vendor were not capable I would be switching to one that was.

I'm not sure I answered your question.  If I missed it, please clarify.

Thanks
Michele
