Billing for NP's and PA's
« on: March 17, 2009, 07:39:31 PM »
I'm quite familiar with Medicare guidelines as far as a new consult as so on. My question is can we bill a 99244 (consultation) for an established patient who has not been seen for more than 3 years and has new problems, and they have been seen by our NP or PA? Please help, I have done tons of research and have not found the answer to this question and I am really stumped.

Are you doing a consult, requested by another physician?  Or are you just seeing the patient again after 3 years?  You can bill for a new patient, most insurances allow that if you haven't seen the patient in 2 years.  You also can bill for a consult if the last one was 3 years ago as well.
