NPI for Wilderness Program
« on: December 14, 2011, 05:00:21 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew about registering a Wilderness Program for an NPI #? We are not licensed as Residential Treatment but are licensed as a "Therapeutic Wilderness Program". Can we register the NPI as Residential Treatment if we are not licensed as such?

You should pick the taxonomy code that best describes your program.  I see other wilderness programs using taxonomy code 322D00000X - RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY, EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILDREN .  You are a residential treatment facility, you may not have a license, but you are a residential treatment facility.  The insurance carriers need to determine if they will or will not cover you.  You aren't doing anything deceitful by having an NPI that identifies you as a residential treatment facility.
