I would like to get some feedback on ACO's. We are in California and it seems that this topic is becoming more and more of a reality. After reading up on the topic I'm thinking that this would have an impact on my business but still not sure how. Any information would be appreciated!

df, I believe there is a workshop happening up in LA in the next few months.  It's not much of a major discussion here in southern cal. at ths time.  Dr. Wilson out of Costa Mesa is one of the speakers and a very good presenter.  ACOs provide a mechanism to transition from paying for volume and intensity to paying for value. most of our discussion has been about wether they are compatible with a range of other payment reforms to improve quality, such as medical homes and bundled payments and can they lead to quality improvemnets.  Alot of pros and cons, as with any new implementation. I think the upcoming conference will address a lot of key points and questions.

Thanks! I will definately have to look into that.

One of my concerns and I get asked alot by other billers is will it reduce and/or eliminate the small billers that bill the solo practice with 1-2 providers like an IPA group does. They use their large Billing Office associated with the group.  I think maybe 50% of providers are solo and the other are associated with groups.  Would this become an issue for these type of smaller billers?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!
