Limited licensed psychologist- help??
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:14:28 PM »
Hi so I have a group who has two limited licensed psychologists. This is new to me. For BCBS Michigan, they have to be supervised and billed under the supervising provider's name and numbers. But what I need to know is if it is a psychologist supervising, do you still use the AH modifier or do you use the HO modifier? The lady at the insurance company didn't even know. Any help would be appreciated!!

A limited licensed psychologist is required by state law to be under the supervision of a full licensed psychologist (Ph.D.). This most likely is because they have not fully earned the  Ph.D. in psychology, or it may be a license that is held indefinitely, as long the person remains in good standing with the state certification board. I am ONLY guessing you cannot use the AH modifier since it is only for Clinical psychologists and the doctoral level. It is not indicative of the supervision.
YOU might want to look at the HM modifier which indicates "less than the bachelors degree level".   I would def check with the carrier. I'm only going by the actual modifier indicators.
