global period rejection
« on: January 26, 2010, 05:37:58 PM »
a patient came to the office, was scheduled for a sx, sx has 90 days global.. everything billed and all good. 30 days after the sx, still during post op, pt came back because of reocurrence of the abscess and was scheduled the same procedure again. i tried to bill bcbs for that office visit with modifier 57 (decision for sx) and 58 (staged or related procedure or service during post op) and got rejection saying it is a post op still.. is that correct? thanks!

I would appeal the decision with a letter and office notes to explain why the procedure was repeated.
