Difficulty getting clients

Question
Hi Alice,

I have been trying to get a medical billing home business started, but it seems to be very difficult to get clients.
No one seems to want to train or trust at home medical billing business. I have a certification of completion for medical billing but have no prior experiences.  But my professor is willing to be my mentor and will assist me with my medical billing business.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can get clients?
Betty

Answer
Hi Betty,

This is the hardest part of this business – getting the clients.  It was very difficult for us when we started.  It’s really a numbers game and you have to get the message out about what you are doing.  What are you doing now for marketing?  How many offices do you approach every day?  Do you do mailings or phone calls?  Are you walking into offices?  Are you answering ads?  There are services you can hire to market for you.  Are you advertising?  You can’t expect clients to find you without some effort on your part.

When we started our business in 1994, we did everything we could think of.  We found that new doctors just starting out were more understanding of us just starting out with our business so they hired us.  As you build your business, your doctors will refer you to other doctors.  You just need to get started.  When we started we found we got interest from about 2 doctors out of 100 that we approached.  This might not seem like many, but it got us started and we found better ways to market.

We wrote a book about how to get started because we’ve had so many people ask us.  You can read about it here .

We also wrote a book about marketing.  You can read about it here.  http://www.solutions-medical-billing.com/12Marketing.html .  These are the actual techniques we used to get to where we are now.

It’s great that you’ve got a mentor.  It will be very helpful, but for now you just have to keep marketing.  It’s a long road.
Best of luck.
Let us know how you make out.
