Help With Finding New Credentialing Clients
« on: August 24, 2009, 05:33:48 PM »
Hi:

I would like to expand my credentialing clients in a big way.  But, it is not easy since most credentialing staff are part of a provider's office.  My first clients came from a recommendation/referral.  I have, and am, credentialing Home Healthcare agencies, DME, and a Geriatric group.  Should I use flyers, postcards, business cards, to develop new clients or ask for referrals from present clients?

Are there any suggestions regarding finding credentialing clients?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Denise

I've been doing consulting longer than billing, I actually find the opposite (most doctors DO not have the time or staff) to do credentialing, but bigger so is the scope of services. Providers are wanting more than just standard credentialing, they want contract/fee schedule review and negotiations, providing those services gets me better results when I market.

Linda:

Thank you very much for your answer.  I have offered negotiations, but I have been asked to do clerical things like locating proper Medicare forms to change billing addresses, re-activating Medicare numbers, and placing PA or NP NPI numbers under groups.

I enjoy credentialing, but am willing to think outside the box for my providers.

Again, thank you Linda.  I agree with your answer.

Sincerely,

Denise

I agree with Linda, I find most provider's staff doesn't do, or doesn't know how to do credentialing.  Many of my credentialing clients are billing services contacting me on behalf of one of their clients.  One major reason, it's too important to let it get screwed up.  I've seen many offices where they've changed tax ID #'s, and years later they are still paying for it not being done correctly.

Referrals from providers are always the best source.  But all of the other methods you mentioned are good too.  Whatever you can do within your budget to promote your business.

Michele:

Thank you as well for your input. My first referral was from a small billing company, to whom I am
grateful.  But, just going out looking, it seems that, at least the present area I service, most offices
have their own credentialing person. It could be that they also do the billing, but I only ask about
their credentialing, if it is handled in-house or not.  That is an idea for me Michele.  Ask billing whether
they perform the office credentialing as well.

Again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Denise
