Medicare 90471
« on: January 27, 2009, 02:28:00 PM »
I had a question regarding this code.  I know that Medicare does not pay for the Zostovax shot, however the patient brought in the vaccine and the doctor just administered the shot.  I tried billing Medicare for only the admin portion of it but they denied it.  I am thinking because I billed with V05.8.  Is there another diagnosis code I could use to bill Medicare for the doctor administering the vaccine for the pt?

I also wanted to know if there is an admin code we could use to bill Medicare when giving the patient a B12 shot?

Thanks

I am not aware of another dx that would work.  If they don't cover the Zostovax, they usually don't cover the injection either.  Maybe someone else has different info??
