Decompression Coding
« on: October 17, 2008, 04:53:39 PM »
Hello group,

I am confused on the appropiate way to bill for decompression therapy. Do you bill 97012 - traction and S9090? or do you bill 97110 - qty of 2, 97032, and 97140?

Any clarification would be much appreciated  ???

Thanks,
Charity

I understand why you are confused.  There is no real clear cut answer.  The 97012 (mechanical traction) does not really accurately describe the decompression therapy and most insurance don't cover the S9090.  There is a lot of controversy over whether it actually does work, of course we all know that it is the insurance carriers that don't feel it's been proven.  Most chiros we know are considering it a non billable service and just allowing the patient to decide if they want to pay out of pocket.
