Orthopaedic Billing and Pain Management Billing
« on: October 03, 2011, 05:45:32 PM »
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how difficult Orthopaedic Billing is? I have done Internal Medicine and other specialties, but not Orthopaedic. Is this something that I would be able to pick up on quickly? I know that the codes are not as broad a range as the Internal Medicine would be, correct? Please help! Any advice with Orthopaedic Billing would be greatly appreciated.

I also want to know the same information about Pain Management Billing.

I haven't specifically billed either specialty.  IMO, if you have a good grasp on billing as a whole, and you have experience in other specialties, you will be able to pick up what is needed for a specialty you haven't billed.  In my experience, when I have had to start a specialty I haven't done before I was able to use my previous experience in other specialties and my ability to research what was needed to be able to learn the new specialty.  I'm not advocating going out and 'winging it'.  I just believe that an experienced and responsible biller can do what is needed to learn the new specialty.  I am always up front with a provider when approached for a specialty I haven't billed for, but I'm confident in my ability to learn what is needed.

Thank you Michelle! I have been told by a former co-worker that did Orthopaedic Billing that I would be fine. I have billed for a large variety of other specialties, but not Orthopaedic or Pain Management. I appreciate the advice and will make sure that I am upfront on what experience I do have and that I am a fast learner. Thanks again!
