Folks,

I have a provider who has not yet received medicare number(PTAN) but this provider wants to go ahead and see start seeing patients before getting the medicare provider number. My advice was not to see the patient until certain when medicare number will be effective and someone  else advises otherwise, that the provider will get reimburse later.

Is this true that you can see a patient without your PTAN?
Is this also true that services will be reimburse?

Please help

Thanks

Medicare will make the PTAN active for the date requested on the application.  Providers can see Medicare patients while the application is in process, but if anything goes wrong with the application, they will not be reimbursed.  For example, if Medicare closes the application or returns the application for any reason.
