Hi All,
Just wanted to share the below post from the indeed.com forum......it is sad how students feel so cheated with our industry :-[
I am so thankful for the people who are saying, Dont fall for it. Its too good to be true , it is. I have run into so many scams and didnt fall for it thank god/ Even if it cost 199$, its a scam. I called the same company three times and he always gave me a different name even though i knew i was speaking with the same person and bogus phone numbers. No doctor in his right mind would give out confidential records to anyone to key into a computer. You have to work for these doctors and if they trust you enough, maybe you will get lucky and be offered a job at home after years of dedication and hard work. I am a certified medical assistant and have been through the ropes. These jobs just dont exist without certain criteria and proven work history and credentials.

WoW, I actually think I know her!! Anywho, its sad because they are disillusioned. Medical Billing has been one of the BIGGEST SCAMS in the "work from home" industry. Many people get into this industry thinking they can simply get physicians to send them info and all you do is KEY IN CLAIMS. They believe that our job is basically a data entry job. They need to be held responsible for some of it however. They are not RESEARCHING before they buy into these scams. If they would take the time to learn what medical billing is, they would have the ammunition to question companies to learn what they offer, and what to expect. When it smells like a fish, it is a fish. I almost got into that entire work from home doing telemarketing scams once. Desperation can lead to stupid decisions.

It is definetly tough especially if you have no experience. I think some schools give the impression that this industry is simply data entry when clearly it's not. I agree that people definetly need to research before jumping in.

I agree, our industry has always been misrepresented. But what is worse, is if you go to that forum it is just filled with people coming out of school and expecting to walk into a "work from home" Job. Equal blame goes to the consumer IMO for not doing their research or falling for something that is so easily proven. I just could never see myself offering up $5000 to a school and not researching the job market. I also would EXPECT to hope only for entry level to start unless I was starting my own business. Then you have the ones that want to start with $150 and everything for free. So I think there is plenty of blame to go around. I do have to say, the amount of scam companies has really dropped off and we should thank the FTC and State AG offices for that. Now if we can get people to stop misrepresenting certifications and luring people into believing there is a "NATIONAL" certification simply because they offer it Nationally.. and some even Internationally! ???

i can name an entire group of associations that do that. Self-proclaimed experts in the industry with their "fake" clients feeding off of newbies who want to make it in the industry. Its called the 1-2 punch...advice then turns into a sales pitch. I said it 2 years ago and it still applies.
