ICD CODE FOR AN ER Visit: Fall, No Injury
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:22:06 PM »
Problem: ER visit for pt who fell 10 feet at work, exam revealed no injuries.  This is the only info given. I chose 99281 for ER, but ...can only find E888 or, E888.9 for the fall.  I was told neither ICD code is right and,  of course, found no V code. I searched the Alphabetic Index under Accident, Fall and Misadventure in the ICD. Please, help. Thank you.

99282 is probably more appropriate since it was a high fall and had the potential for greater injury.  Your E code should be WAY more specific.  A fall from 10' is from one thing to another, Ladder? Scaffold? Building? Tree?  The notes should have more specifics, particularly if it's a work injury.  Even if there is no injury, it happened on the job, there should be more specifics involved.

Thank you, DMK. The answer was V71.3, but, I agree ..
.there should have been more specifics to help in choosing the proper E code.
