Need Some Advice Please!

PTBILLER:
Hi, First time at this website.  Very nice and user friendly.  I am an experienced biller and have actually been doing all billing for two clinics for eight years.  I have a website and have advertised with APTA.  (I would like to concentrate on PT/OT billing) I have several calls/emails just recently and feel like this could be the start of something.  I have one call in particular that I feel I could start right now and phase myself out of working f/t now.  One provider (OT) and doing only Medicare for starters.  They are small and just beginning to see Medicare patients.  I am in Michigan-they are in Connecticut.  Although I know I can bill for Medicare through their EDI can you tell me a little about doing that?  I have no billing software yet and will definitely need to purchase soon.  Also what is a good software/clearinghouse combo.  Any help appreciated.  Thanks!!

Cady:
In my understanding, If you intend to use a clearinghouse it will be submitting your claims to Medicare too.. I would contact my regional Medicare Contractor for to know how to submit directly with them if you intend to go that way. I am a biller about to launch mine too and will concentrante on Chiro and PT billing. If it happened that you have too many clients to handle, let me know..I would be billing out of my State too.

PTBILLER:
Hi Cady,  I guess I need to contact the FI for Connecticut Medicare and learn how to submit directly to them through Medicare EDI.  I've never billed this way before.  I've always entered into a program and uploaded to the clearing house.  Hopefully (at least to start) I can get their Medicare claims going.  I do need some advice on a good software that isn't too expensive and a good clearinghouse that is compatible with the software.  I will certainly keep you in mind for future endeavors with PT/OT billing.  I've had a lot of contacts lately.  Maybe we can keep in touch.  Also, to all others....any advice please. Thanks-Pam

Cady:
I 'll be using DAQBilling software. I also heard that Medisoft, Lytec and Altapoint are good for medical billing service starters. And if you wish to use an Internet based software DAQBilling and Kareo are the good ones for medical billing service. I think it would benefit to you to use the software that you have been using in your work experience. For the clearinghouse, just ask the vendor of the software you 'll be using. Keep in touch and luck to you.

Michele:
Hi,
Thanks for the helpful info Cady!  It's nice to have more than one answer/opinion on questions.  Cady had great advice, so I will just add a little more.

We use Lytec and we love it.  It is reasonably priced for what you get.  However, like Cady said, if you can work with what you are already familiar with that would be great.  It is important to make sure your software and your clearinghouse will be compatible.

We have separate software that allows us to submit direct to many carriers.  The software is a little pricey, but it saves us a ton on clearing house fees.  For the quantity we bill it is way worth it.

I'm not sure how you will go about billing for the one client without having your software in place.  I don't know how you can go thru their EDI setup.  I do know of several billing services who use web based software.  It makes it easier for them to get the info from the longer distance clients.  I can't really comment too much since I've never used it.

I think you first need to decide what direction you will be going software wise, then the rest can be determined, one step at a time.  Exciting getting started, isn't it?  :)

Good luck and use the forum to help you along the way!  There are a lot of intelligent people out here and we can all help each other out!

Michele
