: Need info on software and clearinghouse
: Alice Scott March 01, 2008, 10:28:30 PM
Question
Software
I would like more information on the clearinghouse?  Also, in the Lytec software.

Thank you,
Jacqueline R

Answer
Jacqueline,

I’m not sure what information you want.  We’ve got some info on clearinghouses here http://www.solutions-medical-billing.com/electronicbillingclearinghouse.html and
here http://www.solutions-medical-billing.com/medicalbillingclearinghouse.html

We use Lytec and know a great reseller for Lytec.  We really like the program.  Here’s what we have so far on Lytec

Here’s info on sending claims directly to the insurance companies

Hope this helps.

Wouldn't you want software that billed directly for you, and didn't need a clearinghouse?

For some that is a better option, but that software can be fairly costly so if you are not billing enough volume it may not be cost effective.

Billing direct many times also means a lot of extra data entry, to me it's not cost effective.

I agree on this!

For me there is no extra data entry, the program pulls the claims from my PM system.  It's exactly the same as using a clearinghouse, except I dump them directly into the carrier's system.  I like it.

Hi.  I am currently a Lytec user (system is 2009). It is a really good system - however something to think about up front is the fact that the upgrades can be super expensive, especially if you are billing from home.  I personally manage a walk-in clinic and we are talking costs up to 2 K to upgrade the software to the newest (and this is on a yearly basis).  If it is not upgraded yearly and 3 years down the road you decide to upgrade the newest version then you would have to pay for every years upgrade.  Other than the cost factor and some customer service issues with our reseller, we like the product and the functions it has.
As far as clearinghouses goes, we use RelayHealth.  It also processes by batch and it might take 5 - 10 minutes max to send claims if you send them during slower times.  (This means not sending at closing time like some choose to do).  The revenue manager piece of Lytec is super nice because it actually scrubs the claims for you prior to sending them.
Hope this helps! 8)

We have used Lytec for 15 years and I know exactly what you are referring to.  When we first purchased it, it was a reasonably priced PM system with great functionality.  However, once they got bought out (NDC) the prices went up.  They used to target the smaller to middle sized offices.  Now it is priced for more for middle only.  ALso, the upgrades are costly and disruptive.  We actually had purchased a separate program that worked with Lytec for our electronics.  We didn't have any clearing house fees, but that program was an extra $1500-$2k per yr for updates and support as well.  For us, worked out because it allowed us to submit claims electronically, direct, without a middle man.  HOWEVER (and getting to my point!) we found it necessary to consider other options.  The web based softwares seem to offer more than the server based ones.  We researched several, but for us, the cost was, well frankly, it was outrageous.  One actually wanted $20k for setup and $17k per month.  After much research we found Xena-health which is a web based software that has a very reasonable monthly fee ($99-$149 depending on if you are a provider or a billing service) but has all the functionality (plus more) of the other web based softwares.  They are able to offer the software for a much more reasonable price because they are using a new technology, SAAS.  We are in the middle of our conversion and have been using them for about 6+ months.  We are transferring slowly due to the number of providers we bill for.  If you would like a demo, I can arrange one for you.  (They are working on having a demo on their web site, but it's not available yet.

Best of luck!
