Does these seem right for Medical Billing?
« on: May 10, 2012, 03:36:08 PM »
I am making and submitting claims, printing and mailing patient bills, calling on claims, and posting co-pays and EOBs. I am getting paid 8% for EOB payments and 4% on patient payments. Does this seem average :o? These are for behavioral health claims. Also, when I print and mail bills there are on average about 75 of them and I am no paid any extra for doing so. I would love to hear everyone's opinion!  ;D

First I guess it depends on what state you are in and if % based biling is even allowed by providers. Aside from that I'd have to say it's still hard to determine if it's a fair pricing structure because it's based only on reimbursement rather than on your time. This is why I don't like % based billing. Only you would be able to know if it was fair reimbursement because again, the work isn't dependent upon your time but rather what the reimbursement is and then so your getting less money for patient payments even though the work involved (statements, etc) is still time consuming.  It's also going to depend on what kind of practice this is, certainly some would think 8% too high for a surgeon but might be just right for a larger family practice.
