National health care question
« on: July 04, 2009, 01:27:37 AM »
I have my own medical billing service and I'm worried about all the new laws coming into effect with National health care.  I know no body knows yet about how it will effect us billers exactly, but maybe someone out there "in the know" can tell me.  I'm afraid that I'll be out of a job - that billing people will "have" to be government employees or something.  My business has grown over the past few years and finally started actually making money just 2 years ago - up until 2008, I can say it, considering all the time and money I spent, it wasn't worth it, but now things are going well - I enjoy it and dont want to lose it.  Just wondering what other billing people think about it - are you worried or do you think it'll be better???

There was a similar question posted a month or so ago, and I know in my opinion I don't believe it can happen.  Although I'm starting to wonder if this Government understands that the PEOPLE don't want government in control of EVERYTHING.  I dread the thought of National Health Care as we have seen in other countries that doesn't work either.  And if I recall correctly, Linda also didn't believe it could happen.  I think we are all safe for now.  And one thing I've learned is don't waste time worrying about the "what if's".  :)

I'm not worried at all.. In fact this is the BEST time in my opinion to be marketing. I closed my billing company back in 2001 and just recently re-opened it again and obtained 4 clients in just 2 months time. As for the future, I don't think we will ever see a national health plan.. I see doctors having to make more cut backs in staff and do more outsourcing, that's what I see and am starting to see already, they are worried too and when they worry they cut back on costs and billing companies save time and money. I worry more about offshore outsourced companies!

I totally agree...I have a relative that sells businesses and one of her clients puts together medical billing businesses for those wanting to get into the field.

He markets to doctors on the price of $2.99 a claim and then sends all the work over to India. After he gets 12-15 doctors, he sells the client's account as a package for around $50,000 to someone wanting to start their own business.

I couldn't believe that there's someone out there doing that....it made me mad....but also motivated me to market my higher quality services to doctors.
