electronic billing system
« on: March 04, 2009, 02:31:05 PM »
Michele,
I spoke to a doctors office today, seeing if they can use my service.
She told me they a electronic medical record system that also sends out all their claims, have you heard of this?
She said they go out automatically.

They are already set up with EMR and doing electronic claims submission. Some providers (mines) are still filing paper. Maybe he felt that you thought he was filing paper also and thats why he replied that way.

OR.. they are already outsourced so they think they just ...poof go to the clearinghouse/carrier  :o
I once met with a doctor who didn't know anything about his office setup, all he knew was he was getting checks in and his mortgage paid. LOL

It's amazing to me how many doctors don't have any idea of their billing process, even when that is what pays their mortgage.  Like Linda said,  as long as their is enough money in the account to pay their bills, they are satisfied.  In most of those cases they are not getting paid for ALL of the work they do.

Anyway, it's also possible the person you spoke with doesn't know exactly how the billing in the office works.  Your post implied it wasn't the dr you spoke with.  The answer is very vague, EMR and billing are really two separate processes, but they may have one system that handles both.  They may input the info, and either it is going automatically from there, or they have a billing service that comes along and takes care of it.

By that answer though, you are left guessing.

any one can help me find the right modifier to unbundle a follow up visit from a surgery performed with the 90 days global period. Dr did an apligraf procedure (15340) and did follow up with the patient care before the 90 days period. Tried adding 24 modifier but didn't work...any suggestions please.

@heba, you indicate thatt this is a f/u service to the surgical procedure mod. 24 does not apply if the f/u is re;lated to the surgical procedure and falls with the global then cpt 99024 is your code.  If this is an total UNRELATED E/M to surgical then mod .24 with your notes should support the procedure
