Question
My question is about CMS1500 form, box 24a, from/to date.  Do I enter the “to” date as the discharge date or the day before the discharge date?  How will that effect night stays in our sub-acute or residential facilities?

I appreciate your monthly newsletter and find valuable information to use.  Keep up the great work.

Answer
Hi Kathy,

It would depend on what service you are billing for in box 24d.  If you are billing for a service that is on one specific date of a stay, then you would bill that date in the from & to, but if you are billing for a service that spans the entire stay, then you would bill the admit date thru the discharge date.  I’m not sure why you would enter the day before the discharge date.  Let me know if this does not answer your question.
