MALAR RASH NOT LUPUS

how do i code a butterfly rash on the face if patient tests negative for lupus?

as simple urticartia?  or is there a non lupus related malar rash?  can't seem to find it..nnyff

Are you talking CPT or ICD-9.  You don't indicate what services.....  Is this for a course?

These type of coding questions shouldn't be asked or answered on this or any forum. Coding requires the medical chart to which no one here has  (or should have) access to.
This is very different than asking a basic coding question.

Google on "causes of malar rash" (with the quote marks) and you will get hits like this one.  It lists some possible causes of non-lupus-related malar rash.

The link above also explains the types of tests that a doctor can perform that will aid in getting a proper diagnosis for the malar rash.  Only when the doctor is satisfied that he has a good diagnosis will he give you the code(s), or the proper words that you can use to find the code(s).  The doctor who has performed the testing and come up with a diagnosis is the only one who can give this information to you.
