Billing Medicare and Supplemental Insurance
« on: February 06, 2012, 02:30:03 PM »
I know that when we bill Medicare they forward the claim to the supplemental insurance. My question is that do we note on our claim how much to bill the supplemental insurance or does Medicare/supplemental insurance figure that out themselves.

Thanks for your help.

When Medicare crosswalks the claim to the supplemental (and they don't always, check your Medicare EOB to see) they have all the figures on the crosswalked claim.

Please note that supplemental covers deductible and co-pay only for the items that Medicare allowed.  A true secondary MAY cover items not allowed by Medicare, and may pay higher rates.  A true secondary is different from a supplemental.  Although true secondary insurance is seen less and less every year.
