Hi,

Patient had aarp & mutual of omaha at same time of service , aarp paid up until insurance was cancelled. mutual of omaha paid also and is his current secondary carrier. aarp is a private paid insurance, does the patient get the credit ? called aarp and they immediately wanted us to refund the money. thanks for your help.

Did they want you to refund the money to them or the patient?  If they are requesting the refund then it looks like they should not have paid.  Otherwise, since it is private pay, I would have said refund the patient.

If it's a private plan, this is a case of being over-insured which happens to many seniors, the patient gets the credit. While it may not seem right, the reasoning behind it is the premiums. They are paying a lot for their premium's so while it looks like they are getting money back for visits, in fact they are not, they pay out more in premiums.
