Newbie to the Medical Billing Forum
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:39:11 PM »
Hi everybody!

I've heard so many good things about this forum and I am happy to finally be a member!  I've been involved in medical billing and coding for too many years to admit in writing - put it this way - when I started I hand-wrote HCFAs out with whatever the doctor told me to put down.  I'm sure we would all agree that quite a bit has changed from that scenario!

I look forward to commenting, learning and just keeping up with others in the biz - we all have so much to share and THAT is the best way to increase your knowledge - communication!

I'll be lurking on the boards and I hope to *meet* many of you soon - have a great night!   ;D

HELOOOOOO to you too Miss Linda!!!!!

Long time, eh?  I've gone thru so much over the years - up and down - but I'm very excited about all the challenges and intricacies in healthcare now compared to when we met so very long ago!!!!!

I've read thru tons of posts here and I love the content and *feel* of this awesome board - lots of great advice and help!  I will admit though - I'm looking forward to "spirited debate" on the value and long-term opportunities of being a coder with you - I am a strong advocate of AHIMA and believe coders have MANY opportunities!

With that being said - AAPC will always be special to me as well and they give amazing, understandable and strong educational information in many ways also - same as AHIMA.  Just depends on what your goals might be as well as the geographic area you are in.

So very happy to *see* you again, my friend!

I certainly can't debate that at all. :)

I agree I think it really depends. Out here our doctors are mostly doing the coding. Even at one of our area hospitals the physicians are responsible, they have coders that error check only. I just found that out actually when I was helping a friend with a resume for our local hospital.

The AAPC does a fine job in educating coders.. I just wished they helped take a stand here in the U.S with us to keep things in our own country. Could be why the name American Academy of Procedural Coders no longer appears anywhere on their website or materials anymore. I believe the influx in outsourcing and remote coders outside the U.S. Started with them along with the help and support of the other associations.

ok, off my soap box.. I haven't changed much :)    I have a new grandbaby.. last time I saw you.. our kids were just wee little ones.. remember??
