Sales People
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:25:59 PM »
Hi Ladies,

Question, I have put an ad on moster and career builder for a sales rep for my company - any thoughts on taking this approach for new clients? How do you all market for new clients?

So you are looking to hire someone to do your marketing?  I've heard of others doing that but haven't tried it myself.

Yes,

I have three in the Northeast who have done great for my company but in the South it is a whole different ball game.  Any other tips on marketing and getting the first one?

Hey! KLA,

In Northeast how much sales people charge you? Can you give me some contact information for them?

I think this is a hit/miss type of thing.  I have seen companies have great success with this and those who don't. One thing I have seen with the successful ones, is that they remain hands on completely, right down to visiting with the potential clients.  If you can do that and stay ON HAND, it would be more effective.

I am in SC now.  I am meeting with some sale people today.  They are very different here than in the North East.  I pay my sales in NJ $350.00 for a close.  It keeps them happy, they call every month to check in and keep the client happy but I always attend the sale call with them for all the "technical stuff".

Thank you for reply. 350.00 is great deal for close. I am in Maryland and I did asked two marketing companies and they quoted me very high price like 3k-4k a month.

Linda,
I agree with you 100% but to me I am struggling with time. I am doing job and managing my current two clients. So it is very difficult to visit offices physically. And right now I cannot give up job as my daughter is going to private college in September 2011. I do doing cold calling by phone though.

I get it, I worked 50-60 hours back when I started my business and couldn't comfortably leave until I had 2-3 clients.  JUST some advise.. Do NOT tell the client that. They will wonder how you would managed their accounts with so little time.  What you could do if your sales team/marketing rep got you an appt would be to rate the visit on a scale of 1-10  1 being a not so great lead and 10 of course being a super lead.  The ones 6 or higher take them to dinner :)  I had a lot of success with dinner meetings and even lunch meetings. It's not so hard to work them into your schedule because everyone has to eat.

I have been doing this or over 10 years and have a compant that is running itself in the northeast.  I feel like a newbie in the south though.  Things are totally different!

Do you pay them hourly to make sales call too? That's a fantastic deal because I don't know too many sales people who will continue to call on clients they don't get residual for.

Well, I usually ay them as an independent contractor.  They were pharma reps before.  The way it work it is $60.00 for an interview with the "key decision maker" then if I have to go in and close I will pay them another $60.00 if they close, they get an additional $300.00 - most of them believe it or not go to seminars to meet them, golf, their own dr's appts.  you would beliew it.

My hubby and I just relocated to SC because our property taxes were $16,000 in NJ - too rich for my blood.  My house in SC is unbelievable compare to my 3 bedroom center hall colonial in NJ - I just have to get used to the laid backness around here.  No one is in a big hurry.

Good new though - I hired a saleperson yesterday and he ahs 3 strong leads for me today!!!!  cross the fingers everyone - I will have a busy week!

All of my family is down in NJ, after my youngest finishes HS we will probably go back, Hopefully Christie has things back under control there!  Our property taxes before we moved were about $8,000 not too bad, we sold our house right b4 the market went nuts so we made a really nice return on it..banked it basically to go back :)

Linda,

How long has it been since you have been back to NJ?  It is quite different now - there isn't enough tea in china to get me to go back!
