Has anyone used or uses Helper 7.5 in their billing service? ??? It is geared towards mental health. Any info is greatly appreciated, pros and cons.

Not sure if the original poster is still around but we are using Helper 7.5 in our office. We have had it since Feb 09. It has it's ups and downs. I am very familiar since I use it daily, so if anyone has any questions I can maybe answer them.

Are you talking about Therapist Helper? If so I don't like it much. I especially don't like the reports. I have found myself forced to use it at times until I show the client something better, a lot of therapists get it because it's simple and it is geared towards the therapist who wants to do their own billing, it's quite limited with reports IMO.

I can't stand this software. I've been using it for a few months now and find it glitchy and slow and probably not as useful/efficient as some of the other software available. I hesitate to switch software at this point, however, because billing was way behind when I took over and I don't want to get farther behind with a lengthy and possibly expensive conversion process.
That said, any recommendations on billing software for a single-physician, but busy, psychiatric practice?

I've found that specialty practice management software is way too limited in features.. go to a system that will accommodate any specialty.

I totally agree with Linda. I know Linda likes Kareo and I like TotalMD, but there are others out there that are popular like Lytec, Medisoft, AdvancedMD and many others. I haven't seen anything from a Mental Health office that any of those options couldn't handle just fine.

Another advantage to staying away from specialty softwares is that there are so many changes by specialty so much that those updates can really put a damper on support. Your total PM systems that handle all specialties are designed to make the appropriate updates at a larger volume, thereby giving you better support and more value for your money. I also tell people with ANY SOFTWARE you get NOT getting a support contract is a waste of money. Spend the money and get the support.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I looked into Kareo (I think I found it through a web search, but maybe it was a post of Linda's) before Xmas and liked the looks of it. I'll look into the others you mentioned, though, just for the sake of comparison.
And I hear what your saying about specialty software. There's actually nothing special about there tech support (recently reduced from a team of 10 to a team of 3) and they have given me incorrect information more than once when it came to specific billing issues.
