: Acupuncture Billing--Ins or Patient?
: integrativebiller November 14, 2013, 01:43:04 PM
Hi!  I bill for an MD in California.  Sometimes during an office visit the MD will do acupuncture.  She wants to bill the insurance for an office visit (for example, 99215) and then bill the patient for the acupuncture.  From what I understand, you cannot bill a patient for a service that is billable to insurance.  What would be the correct way to handle this?
Thanks!

if the patient's ins covers acupuncture, and you are in network, you must bill the ins....if the patient's plan does not cover acupuncture, you may certainly bill the patient for it....

Thank you, Christy; that's what I thought and I appreciate the confirmation!
