Billing for Physical Therapy Assistant
« on: August 12, 2008, 02:44:39 PM »
We are a Pain Mgmt Clinic looking into the possibility of hiring a Physical Therapy Assistant or Exercise Physiologist.  We currently have a PT on staff, and the head of clinic is Board Certified in Pain Mgmt...I am unfamiliar with billing out services, and what to expect as far as reimbursement...can some one familiar with this type of billing explain? Thanks much!!

I'm not 100% sure if I understand your question.  I think you are questioning how to bill for the PT assistant or the excercise physiologist.  If so, you would bill the services out under the PT's name, since they would be overseeing the services by the assistant.  Of course there are laws regarding what the PT assistant can and can't do, and whether the supervising PT needs to be on sight or not.  As long as those laws are followed, you would bill out the services under the PT's name.

If that's not specifically what you were asking, let me know.

Thanks

Thank you Michele for the answer.  I realize the PT Assistant's billing is governed by certain state laws...which I did pull for our state.  Other than using the PT as the Supervising, are there any other billing requirments, i.e, modifiers, that need to be used to designate the PT Ass't services? I appreciate your assistance.

I almost forgot...is the reimbursement similar to that of a CNP? Thanks.

I'm not aware of any other billing requirements or any modifiers that should be used.  Just the regular PT cpt codes.  Since your billing under the supervising PT's name, the reimbursement should be the same as for a regular PT.

Thanks
