Behavioral Health Billing
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:55:37 PM »
Hello,
I need to know if anyone can reccommend and good mental health billing books for me.  Our company is Looking into providing billing for mental health professionals.  We already bill for facilities but i would like to learn the other half.   I also read somewhere on this forum that the CPTs are changing in 2013 so I would need updated information in order to learn the right way to bill.

Thankyou

Yes, you will want the new 2013 code books (CPT) If your provider is an MD (Psychiatrist) you will find they are able to utilize more E/M and therapy codes ill be replaced and used in ADDITION to the therapy code.

Just a tip, but I have had all my mental health providers DITCH their DSM books. You will have some argue and say there's no diff between the DSM and ICD9 but indeed there are. There are actually over 149 differences now.  I don't care if they use it internally but not for coding of their superbills and/or daysheets.  Medicare will actually reject many of the DSM diagnosis.

Didn't you say you had experience in mental health, just individuals not groups?  Or am I getting you confused with someone else?

Facility is, but she was asking about learning "the other side" which I thought meant professional billing as opposed to facility billing but now I'm not sure!   ???
