Nursing Home Collections for outstanding medical bills
« on: September 02, 2014, 04:53:30 PM »
Hello,
Does anyone know if it's still difficult to collect from old accounts that
nursing homes have? I know that lots of nursing homes are closing doors because
Medicare isn't paying as it did 10 years ago.

DO you mean Medicare is not paying the claims?  Or that they are now paying less?

I haven't heard of this issue, but I don't bill for Nursing Homes, only drs who perform services in them.

Here is a link to start..

http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Billing/SNFConsolidatedBilling/

Are they are paying less than what? Are they paying less than a year ago?   Several month ago?  Does this relate to a specific Advantage plan or Original Medicare?
Could you give us an example for instance.. The same patient and the reimbursement now compared to when they were paying at a different rate.  I think we need more information to help you.
Have you checked to see that the codes used for said patient are exactly the same with the same diagnosis.  Are they possibly billing for services that are supposed to be included in the consolidated billing.  Is the SNF billing certain patient stays to Part A when sometimes they need to be billed to
Part B?

Perhaps after reading the site (above link) you can furnish us with more info.
