Hi all,
I received a opportunity this week to do an interview segment with a local news station in my area. (OK, the number 1 news station in the area). The segment is about Smart Money Tips and the focus of the interview was regarding uninsured patients working out payments arrangements with their provider offices and payment options that may be available that patients never ask about or are unaware of.
I will get to the point now. I think the interview went great. There was 2 hours of footage that will be edited down into 1 minute and 30 seconds so I am concerned that the correct message get across. Can anyone share their thoughts on media interviews, the exposure it may bring and anything else you can think of? I guess I'm going to be on pins and needles until it airs. (In about 2 weeks)
Thanks,
-
Congratulations! Sounds like a great opportunity. It is always nerve wracking when you are unsure of the final product. But from what you are saying it sounds like it should be fine. In my opinion, exposure is good. I would say any exposure is good as most people say, but I'm not sure that is true. However, this exposure sounds like it will be good for you. Let us know how it comes out!

Thanks. It all happened very quickly but I learned a long time ago to be prepared when an opportunity presents itself. It was a great experience. Now just biting my nails to wait for the finished products and see what comes from this.

It's nice to see that the media is asking the right people for a middle approach to fees. As a biller you see all sides and will make sure that everyone gets a fair shake. I hope the interview gets edited to suit what you MEANT to say, you know how that can go!
I've seen too many interviews in magazines where they are trying to give the patients tips on how to HOSE the doctor. There's fair and there's fair.
I'm sure we all agree that the uninsured patients should get quality care at a good price, and that the doctor should get paid for his time. We may be able to fix our healthcare system without the government's intervention! JMHO.

Thanks DMK,
That is my biggest concern. Making sure the fairness comes across. Throughout the interview I spoke of providers having families and a livelihood to support, patients well being as a focus for them and being able to keep their practice doors open to care for more patients etc. I also spoke of patients being realistic and proactive by contacting the office BEFORE their appointment to discuss the financial situation and not blind siding the office with it when they show up. I really hope it all comes across as intended. Once it airs I will definitely let you all know how it went and provide a link if the news station posts one to the segment on their website. I would love all of your feedback on it.

Hi all,
The interview aired today! I think it went well. There was only 1 or 2 things I noticed but not bad at all. The video is on my website. Check it out and tell me what you think.

This is not criticism of you at all...but the article seemed very misleading making patients think they can still negotiate fees with insurance, I think it would have been more credible had someone brought up the fact that physicians and hospitals are obligated by law to collect out-of pocket in cases where insurance is involved. If i were just an average consumer watching that I would be thinking.. wow I can negotiate my copay balance with my doctor.
JUST my opinion and I know it has nothing to do with you, the media probably edited out a lot I bet!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the support and feedback. I agree Linda. Your statement is 1 of the "1 or 2 things" I noticed about what aired. Of all the information given in 2 hours I understand the edit down to 1:30 but I think the segway to "even if you have money" could have been stated more clearly. All of the information given was geared specifically toward uninsured patients.

All of the information given was geared specifically toward uninsured patients.
You would have thought they would have stated that more clearly! Hey it might be a good idea to get more exposure from them by bringing that really important thing to their attention!!
