To outsource or Not - Marketing
« on: August 27, 2008, 05:21:51 PM »
Hi,

As we all know, most health insurance carriers even Medicare now offer electronic billing and EFT for Providers right on their web site.  There is no software to buy and maintain and no training needed.  Providers can now get their money deposited directly to their bank account.  Gone are the days when we, Medical Billing Specialists, use "electronic submission results to faster payment" as one tool to convince Providers to outsource their billing.

My question is, what is the best response when a prospective client/Provider says, " I am already submitting my claims online and my check gets deposited to my bank account right away...."?

Jocelyn,

I tell them there is so much more to do than just submit the claims and get the money deposited.  Is their staff checking electronic reports, do they do follow up, does the person doing the electronics know what they are doing, how much are they paying to keep their systems updated, what is their staff turnover rate?  Etc, etc.

Also, does their staff handle denials, unpaid claims, pt billing?

Is their billing person up to date with the insurance carriers on the changes, NPI numbers, etc.

Billing Specialists are needed more than ever now, with all the changes going on in the field.

Wow, I hope I picked you up, I know I picked myself up a little too!  :)
