Marketing A New Business
« on: November 17, 2010, 07:13:53 PM »
I am starting a homebase medical billing service, and in the marketing stages. This has been the most challenging part of starting the business, yes even more challenging then writing a business plan! I am trying to get a  mailing list together, and boy is this a challenge and time consuming! I purchased a list of doctors, now I have to call all the doctors on the list, to confirm their  address and if they are a private practice. I don't want to waste my time or money on practices that are owned by hospitals. I am confirming the addresses because if the address is incorrect, I will be charged for  returned mail. I do bulk mailing, and that is something I will be charged for. Does anyone have any suggestions, or a more simplify way?

What is the most effective way, for new business to market? I would like to know what worked for you.

Hi,

While your calling to the address and private practice information, are you engaging them in conversation about their billing?  I don't like cold calling (no seriously I don't like it) but I think its inevitable.   :)  Stopping by the office works also.  Of course be prepared that they may be busy and not have time to speak with you but leave some information for them and see if you can set an appointment while you are there to come back and meet with them.

Bulk mailings are probably the least effective way to get results.  But many like it because it is the least confrontational.  Marketing is the hardest part of medical billing and it is the number one reason that services fail.  We are actually developing a marketing program for people to join and we will be doing actual marketing.  Providing you with unique marketing tools, new to the medical billing industry, and walking you thru how to target profitable providers.  The program also makes you accountable to someone which will give you incentive.  We are excited about it.  Should be available around the beginning of the year.

In the meantime we do have a marketing book available giving you some other marketing ideas.  You can read about that book http://www.medicalbillinglive.com/medical-billing-marketing-strategies.shtml

Good luck!

Michele I did purchase The 12 Marketing Strategies To Grow Your Medical Billing Business and Secrets To Signing Up Your First Doctor. I just wanted to get feedback from other business owners. The books are great! Thanks for your feedback!

Meli,

I call the prictices to confirm their address and if they are a private practice. My market target is private practices becauce, in my area the hospital own a lot of the practices, and I don't think that the hospital owned pratices are able to make the decision to outsource their billing. Please correct me if I am wrong. I confirm practices addresses because, it will cost me money if the address is incorrect and it is returned to me. Bulk mailings charge you for returned mail.

I disagree, I think your more qualified leads will NOT come from the internet, the internet is meant to be a tool of efficiency and a secondary arm in marketing as well as extended customer/client satisfaction.

As for those mailing lists people purchase.. WASTE of money. Get out there and go door-to-door, open up yellow pages and your own PPO or a friends PPO list/book of providers, and do some cold-calling. Create something to generate interest and promote your education and your experience. Selling yourself is the KEY to marketing this business.

I've started compiling lists of providers in my area by driving around while running errands. I think anything that you can do on your own for free marketing wise is the best way to go.

We are planning to announce it in our newsletter, scheduled to go out Thursday.  The first month is free, so that you can see what you will be getting.  Marketing is the hardest, yet most crucial part to succeeding.  If we can all 'work together' and help each other - it will make it so much easier!  That's what we're trying to do in this program.  It will be a monthly program, you will receive newsletters, emails, cd's, dvd's, actual marketing tools (mailers - but much better than old fashioned letters!), scripts and sales copy, and an interactive accountability system.  Whhhheeeewwww!  Sorry but Alice and I just got done working on some of the materials so I'm psyched!

Anyone interested in signing up, or just getting more info should email alice directly at alice-solutions@cnymail.com

Thanks
Michele
