: Billing for ER docs
: billingfromhome428 June 04, 2009, 08:12:36 PM
I have been in the medical billing and coding field for about 5 years now and most of my experience is in general surgery and chiropractic.  I have the opportunity to interview with a group of ER docs to do their professional side of the billing.  Is there anything I should know about ER specific billing?  I do have some family practice experience but it has been a couple years and I am sure it is rusty.  I think I would mostly be using 99281-99285 and then if there is a procedure or test, whatever code that is, but I just thought I would throw it out there and make sure I am not missing something big.

Thanks to all!

I think with your background you will be ok.  It should all come coded properly but the background you have will help you pick up if things aren't correct.  Yes, the e&m codes of 99201-99215 are replaced with the 99281-99285 codes.

You'll be fine!
