: Registering with Insurance Carriers
: Brenda09 March 19, 2011, 09:06:55 PM
Hello,
I spoke with different insurance carriers and was told that if I was using a clearinghouse to submit claims it wasn't necessary for the billing company to register with them (except Medicare), only the clearinghouse would need to register.
If I take on a client and do only aged accounts I wouldn't need a clearinghouse because most claims would be filed on paper? If that is the case would I need to register with the carriers in order to file paper claims?
Thanks in advance,
Brenda

Billing companies do not register with insurance carriers. Provider's do.

Hi Linda,

Thank you, that is a relief. I have seen posts on different forums where people talk about Billing Agent numbers and I wanted to make sure.

Thank you for all of the valuable information you share, I appreciate it.

The billing agent has to be documented on the provider's Medicare enrollment.
