personal questions

Hi Michele,
Do you find that when you meet with some of the mental health providers they ask some personal questions, you feel you are in a session or something?

No, I have never encountered that at all.  Not sure what I would do, i guess it would depend on what they were asking me.

Margie,
When you first start, mental health professionals will make you feel a little uncomfortable.  I have left many appointments feeling like I just went thru a 90806!  The psychiatrists can be even worse.  It does get better the more that you know/meet.  Another strange thing I find with them is that once you are billing for them, they will call you and you become the therapist!  They are with patients all day, listening, fixing things.  Then they call you and they need someone to listen to them.  I even joke with them and tell them I'm going to bill their insurance!

That is so true about mental health providers.  When I was still working in the office my providers would come sit in my office between appointments sometimes just to vent about stuff, they too need someone to talk to and I used to tell them too that I should be paid for listening to them!  They were a great bunch of people to work for.  Quite honestly I don't know how they can do it sometimes, sit all day long listening to other people’s problems!  They are just like everyone else, they have things going on in their lives too and it is good for them too to have someone they feel they can talk to.  But, they are like children when it comes to getting them to give you what you need to get them paid!  So many that I know hate doing the OTRs, etc. and sometimes you have to get firm with them about getting what you need from them!  But all in all, most are really great to work for.
Thanks,
Lesley

Linda, You've never felt that way?  Wow, when I go in to a mental health provider and I sit across from them I feel like they are analyzing me!

No, not at all, but I have to say I have become and even have stayed close friends with all my mental health clients (except the one I had turned in for fraud  ::) )
Now my pediatricians were cute.. If I had a cough or soar throat they would always insist I come in .. LOL

I have become friends with some of mine as well.  I find the same with my family practice docs.  I got one I've never met, just talk with on the phone.  (I do credentialing and consulting for him.)  Once my voice was a little scratchy and he's telling me what to get at the drug store.  I guess they are never 'not' a doctor!  I find it funny, in a cute way.   :D
