: Bariatric Weight Loss Insurance Billing
: claimresolutions January 28, 2011, 06:22:28 PM
Hi Everyone,

We have a prospective new client in the field of Bariatric Weight-loss.  They do not currently accept insurance but are looking to grow their practice as well as treat patients that cannot afford to pay cash.  We have no problems handling their enrollments but I am not sure which, if any insurance companies will pay for their services.

This practice does not do surgical weight-loss; they do EKG's, metabolic testing, blood sugar testing and provide a host of non-surgical treatments.  They also provide personal training and nutrition counseling.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look for answers as to which insurance companies will pay how much for which proceedures?  Obviously, fee schedules are a good start but very broad.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!  Thanks in advance!!!

i would contact a couple of the larger insurance carriers and start there.  Ask if they will credential this type of provider and if they cover these services.

I know this is probably a little late.   We used to do psychological evals for pts that wanted lapband, gastric bypass, etc etc.,    The main insurance was blue cross blue shield.  bcbs required the evaluation, however, to this day, I am still fighting for payment.  We then went to a flat rate fee and eventually quit all together doing these types of evals.   Good Luck!!!
