I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW IT WORKS THROUGH THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM, BUT HAVEN'T HAD ANY LUCKY :( AND IF ANY ONE KNOWS WHERE TO OBTAIN A CLINIC'S PTAN # PLEASE LET ME KNOW! THANKS :)

The only way to obtain a PTAN is directly from Medicare and they (usually) will not give it out over the phone, a written request is required.
Usually letters are entered by entering the number on which the letter appears and then the number which represents the position of the number. For example, C would be 2 3, D would be 3 1. Usually they offer help on entering numbers.
Good luck
