LoveBilling:
Hello Everyone,

I'm new year, been going through the forum, finding a lot of useful information. I'm hoping there is someone here that can help me out/mentor in the area of allergy billing if possible. I searched through the forum, didn't really find much on the subject. I'd appreciate any help/link.

I wish there were courses specific to different specialties available but there are very limited to specialties like chiropractor, I haven't been able to find anything. I've been working in the mental health area for over 15 years now and want to step out a bit into the allergy billing field and also family practice, internal medicine and pediatrics. If anyone has links to courses specific to these areas or are willing to mentor, please let me know.

I appreciate your help and great weekend all

Michele:
Your experience in mental health will definitely help you with the other specialties.  There are definitely things you need to know/learn about each specialty but in my opinion a strong billing background goes a lot further.  You will learn what you need to know.  I don't know of any resources specific to allergy billing.  I would check the Medicare LCD/NCDs.  They can be very useful.  Family practice/internal medicine is pretty straight forward.  You need to learn about the well visit E&Ms vs the 99201-99215 and how to bill if pt is seen for both on the same day.  But most visits are just one E&M code.  Billing is pretty much the same as mental health except auth/referrals are not usually needed since provider is most likely the PCP.  Pediatrics is similar, just more vaccinations.  It can be scary to break out into a new specialty but with your background you should pick it up quickly!

Thank you Michele. Just the thought of stepping out of my comfort zone is really scary, but you're right the experience in billing mh is very helpful so far, I've been going through and reading the LCDs for these specialties, very helpful. Thank you once again
