Psychiatric billing
« on: May 04, 2015, 07:55:05 PM »
I have been doing psych billing for several years, with the new codes that were implemented on 1/1/2013, came a lot of questions from patients, as you are all aware. I have been able to get through to about 99% of my patients, I have one patient that can not grasp what I am saying and I am trying to explain to her why there are now 2 charges on her bill, I tried the 99214 is for the medical part etc. and than the 90833 is the psycho therapy pt etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get through to this patient? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I tell my patients the following:   DHH did a change of procedure codes that affected mental health billing.  The 2 codes are required to be billed to insurance companies.   You can contact your insurance company or DHH for any additional explanations of the codes.

Some patients will not understand no matter what information you give them.
