Coding Vs Billing
« on: May 30, 2009, 07:29:22 AM »
As a new biller to the industry I was wondering if we need to know our coding as well.  I know that coding and billing is a big difference.  From my understanding it is the physician's responsibility to do the coding and provide to us (the biller).  Is that correct?  Or would it be advantageous to get certified in coding?  If so where should I look at doing that (least expensive and preferrably from home).  Are there other training, certifications etc that I should look into getting?

Thanks!

you don't have to be certified, but if you are.....it would make you exceptionally more marketable.
However, both go hand in hand, and a biller should have some general coding knowledge and understanding, but it's not required.
