Question
Our primary care physician is leaving and we are trying to get temporary coverage a locum tenem doctor. We are not sure how we go about billing for a locum tenem doctor. Do we have to go through the entire credentialing process before we can bill under this kind of doctor?

Answer
Hi Penny,
Unfortunately, the correct way to do it is to credential the locum tenem physician. It is a lot of work when it is for a temporary situation, but I’ve come across this myself. We had to credential the physician filling in with each insurance carrier under the group’s tax id #.
Good Luck!
