: Medicare Part B Question
: dedwards September 27, 2010, 12:40:31 PM
Hello,
We are just beginning to bill Medicare Part B.  When I bill 90862 to Medicaid, I use the modifier HE and have never had a problem getting it paid.
Medicare has rejected charges for a Medicare patient stating it is the wrong modifier.  Of course, they offered no help but referred me to their
web site.  The only modifier I could find that seemed to fit (per the Medicare site) is A1.  Now our clearing house (Emdeon) is rejecting it stating it is incorrect.
We are a community mental health center and the charges are for the psychiatrist's visit.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

What are you trying to accomplish with the modifier?  I bill 90862's to Medicare but I have never attached a modifier to it.

Let me try it without a modifier.  This is the first time I've ever filed Part B for a mental health charge.
Thank you for your help!  I really appreciate it.

You should NOT need a modifier for 90862.  IF the provider however is ONLY doing a med check (NO THERAPY), minimal time..it's billed as M0064.
