: Medicare Provider- switching from SS# to EIN
: Christy January 06, 2015, 04:53:09 PM
Hi all,

I work with a LCSW who enrolled herself with Medicare using her SS# (even though she has an EIN.) We need to switch her enrollment to using her EIN (sole proprietor/ type 1 NPI only.) We thought we would bill up to 12/31 using the SS# and then switch effective Jan 1.

How painful will this be in terms of dealing with medicare? I was on hold for a long while with them, but hung up.... ::)

thanks!!

You just need to complete the CMS 855I form and a new CMS 588 EFT.  It's not too big of a deal, in my opinion anyway.  We do them all the time.

I agree.  The forms are straight forward.  Double check the information before sending it off.  If you make a mistake, you'll have to start all over again.

It can go pretty quickly (about 30 days) if you do it all correctly, the first time, and send it to the right place!

thanks ladies, the PECOS change of info (where you would do address changes, etc) does not allow this change. Perhaps the paper app does? hmmm.....
