Billing Regulations for Rehab Residential Treatment
« on: January 12, 2013, 04:00:19 PM »
Can an OON rehab residential treatment facility bill for minimum 30 days treatment, collect up front, and then not issue a refund when the patient leaves against medical advice, or against staff advice?  Are there regulations regarding this topic?

In California it is going be determined by the intake agreement, but almost certainly if clearly stated in the documents you may have a no refunds policy-- this can be a critical clinical issue.

Of course you  don't bill it to insurance and keep both income streams.  I am fairly certain you are not going to be reimbursed for that but if you are  I would return that payment-- if made to facility-- or advise the patient in writing if sent to them.

An In network provider will also have other considerations of their contract and most likely would not be taking money anyway...

jamesmount - can you rephrase your question?  ... which software is used for billing regulation? is an unclear question.

Are you asking for recommendations for good billing software?

Or are you asking how to determine what the regulations are that govern medical billing?

No software that I know of is used for billing regulation, unless it is word-processing software or rules engines used by insurance carriers.  Billing regulation is created by government agencies at both the Federal and State level, in response to legislation that has been enacted by congress at both the Federal and State level.
