Obtaining a Worker's Compensation Claim Number
« on: September 28, 2017, 01:06:16 PM »
It is my understanding that in order to submit a Work Comp claim to the insurance, you must enter the claim number in place of an insurance ID. Our current process is to call the employers and try to get the claim numbers from them. However, it often takes weeks and multiple phone calls for the employer to get back to us. There has to be a better way. Is it possible to send claims without a claim number? Can we bill the patient until we get a claim number? Should we send bills to the employer until we get a claim number?

I'm not sure what state you are in, but we do sometimes send in WC claims without the claim number.  We include as much information as we do have.  Usually the claims go through fine.  We add the claim number as soon as we get it.
