Electronic payments through PaySpan
« on: September 27, 2011, 01:12:00 PM »
Hi
Does anyone out there get their payments through payspan.  Or other electronic payments, like for Medicare.  I don't know why but I have been reluctant to do this.  I like seeing the paper payments I guess.  Is it hard to do the PaySpan.  Do you just go online and the payments are there.  I just have this anxiety about it.  Crazy. Thanks for your thoughts.

We don't have PaySpan, but Medicare REQUIRED us to sign up for electronic payments.  I was TERRIFIED to do it.  What if they empty our bank account? What if they....what if they...? I hate the thought of giving the government access to my bank account.  However, 3 years later, it's been fine.  My clearing house sends me the EOB once the money gets sent and it shows up on my bank statement.  The EFT comes ON TIME 14 days after I e-claim the claims.  (A day later if there's a holiday).

Most of our insurance companies want us to sign up for EFT as well, I'm still hesitant, but Medicare has worked well.

There are two separate portions, EFT for the funds and ERA for the remittance.  We get both for many companies.  It is possible to get EFT without ERA, but more and more carriers are requesting/requiring it.  I actually like it, but it's easy for me to say, it's not my money.   ;D  But from a billing standpoint, way easier.

Thanks for your replies.  I'm still nervous but guess with Medicare we'll have to do it.  I'm just worried about the ins and outs and learning all of it.  I guess you get the eobs online after the funds are deposited if you do both EFT and ERA.  Guess I'm one that hates changes.

I'm right there with you!  Medicare actually has a website now where I can go and verify eligibility and see what payments (or non-payments) are coming.  They are posted even before my clearing house gets them.

I too hate change! And I'm very hesitant with all the new e-technology.  I like paper!  But little by little we're having to switch over.  I just sincerely hope and pray that no one is evil and hacks into the EHR systems and blows it all.  That would be devastating.

I JUST RECENTLY HAD TO SIGN UP FOR PAYSPAN.  IT IS A BIT CONFUSING.

I'm interested in what you find confusing about it as I will be doing it sooner than later.  I don't really know how to start.  Thanks for your input.

I have not really had alot of extra time to really go through and figure the entire website out.   I was confused on how to get the payments to not show as "new" once I printed the eob from the website.  Also, with even more confusion of why I still received paper checks from the same company that uses payspan.   Neither can explain why this is happening.    The good news is is that payspan will email you when you have a payment.

There should be a place to mark the item as "read" so it won't pop up as new again.

There are a LOT of insurance companies sending a paper check but you have to obtain the ERA (EOB) online.  That's ok until there's a $0 pay that you never get ANY indication that the claim has been processed until you take the time to go research it.  That's what's frustrating!

DMK .... What is the link to the Medicare site that allows you to check eligibility & view payments?

We are in California, and are a Part B provider, but there should be similar access to other sorts of providers in other states.  www.palmettogba.com   Then you register with the provider's information.  You can check eligibility, deductible status, and view remittances even before your clearing house gets them.

In Massachusetts you sign up for PECOS.  This allows you to view eligibility, etc. for Medicare.  You can go to Medicare's site and look for PECOS.  Download the form and have it notarized and return a few weeks later they'll send you a user ID and Password.
