Biller Association?
« on: June 19, 2010, 12:04:31 AM »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which medical billing association is best to join given I'm an at home biller. These are the ones I have found The Medical Assiciation of Billers, Electronic Medical Billing Network, and American Medical Billing Association. I'm a tad partial to the the last one since it has a local chapter in Austin, Texas where I live. What are your thought and experiences with professional associations. I suspect depending on your geographical region in the country could determine how strong/weak a particular association local group could be but I would still like to hear what everyone has to say.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.
Thanks, Anna Evans

The question would be....what are you looking to get from an association?  Once you determine that, you will be able to review which one best suits your needs. Some join multiple associations just to say "im a member". A good association has an active board, with active members.  I will agree on one thing, having charter membership locally to you is a plus.

I like to look for associations that represent our industry as a whole, and who will go to bat for us and our industry all the way. For example, I like associations that don't just support the petitions to our govt to put an end or limit offshore billing, not ones that say they support it but have members who are overseas and performing offshore outsourcing. This hurts our industry!  I do look at other things like networking, availability, website access, customer response, etc, but like I said, I like an Association to "stand" behind our industry as a whole!
