Anyone handling Ultrasound billing?
« on: October 20, 2009, 07:57:03 PM »
Wanted to see what was different about doing billing for Ultrasound services company.
Have a potential client, mostly Metroplus, have no experties with it, any info would be helpful.

What fee should be charged for this service.

Thanks

Ultrasound codes are like xray codes, most are in the 70000 range with a few in the 90000.  Your fees should be the same as you would charge for other clients.

I bill for physical therapy and bill for ultrasound quite frequently.  97035 is the CPT used.  Obviously depending on your geographical area it will vary, but most of the fee schedules range from $40-53.  Reimbursement through Medicare is $10.27 (80% of allowable charge).  Hope this helps.

Thanks Michele, any billing regulations to follow?
Any image or reporting documentation requirements?
Any specific credentialing?(Metroplus)
The billing will be performed for a contracted ultrasound firm in the physician office, sometimes using hand-carried equipment.

Next question would be can I bill for the service that the ultrasound company provides?
Meaning, the ultrasound company will send a tech to the medical office and perform the procedure, then I will have to bill for it, just for the technical part performed by the ultrasound tech.
Plus, they would like to bill medicare plans.

If I can do that, do they have to be credentualed?

Billing regulations vary by state, but not usually by specialty so ultrasound for your state should be the same as any other specialty.  I'm not familiar with Metroplus.

They will have to be credentialed if they want to be in network.  Definitely will have to with Medicare if they intend to treat Medicare patients.

DavidZ,  I know this post is old but just wanted to ask if you are billing for the ultrasound office and if so how is it going.  I just signed one so any advice you have would be great.
